Classical guitarist Michael Nigro and flutist Lisa Schroeder are bringing their summer "Noteworthy Duo" tour to Columbine for an evening of classical music infused with Argentine and other South American influences. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Columbine Unitarian Universalist Church.

Michael and Lisa are both on the faculty at Vanguard University of Southern California and share a passion for teaching and performing. Both have played in "Master Classes" in colleges and universities across the country.

The duo's vision, they say, is "to reach a non-classical audience, inspire the classical listener, and to touch just one life with a noteworthy performance." During the course of a concert, in an informal manner, they often include commentary, information, and anecdotes about the composers and pieces they are performing. Their striking ability to communicate with their audience makes performances seem more like an intimate gathering of friends than a recital for strangers. As one classical music society reviewer notes, Nigro's performances are "fresh, passionate and wonderfully executed."

Their longstanding interest in South American music can be heard throughout their extensive flute and guitar repertoire. Michael's latest CD, Guitar Sudamericana, is released on the Austrian label Balcon Records and features guitar works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Antonio Lauro, Adolfo Luna, Jose Luis Merlin, and many others.

The Noteworthy Duo summer tour includes performances in Las Vegas, Grand Junction and Vail as well as the Denver area. The July 19 performance is part of Columbine Unitarian Universalist Church's ongoing concert series, which offers the south suburban Denver community an intimate, acoustically rich, air conditioned concert environment perfect for small ensembles.

Tickets are $10 if reserved ahead, or $12 at the door. Call 303-972-1716 to reserve ahead or visit www.columbineuuchurch.org/music for more details, including links to Noteworthy Duo music samples.
