Boston Symphony Chamber Players
MARCH 14, 2010
Mozart's Quartet in F for oboe and strings opens this diverse concert, followed by Villa-Lobos' Bachianas brasileiras No. 6, for flute and bassoon, one of the great Brazilian composer's nine Bach-inspired suites for varied instrumentation. The Chamber Players also revisit Michael Gandolfi Plain Song, Fantastic Dances, for winds and strings, a work commissioned for them by the St. Botolph Club in honor of its 125th anniversary. Brahms' Quintet in B minor for clarinet and strings, Op. 115, a late piece considered by many to be the greatest of the composer's chamber music works, ends the program.
