On November 17, 7:30PM at Steinway Hall, 109 West 57th Street, the Villa-Lobos Music Society and The Musician's Club of New York will honor the 50th anniversary of the passing of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) at Steinway Hall. Also on the program is the music of Russian composer Reinhold Gliere and Alfred Heller.
The performing artists are violinist Juliana Pereira (Principal Violinist of the Villa-Lobos Music Society), soprano Jennifer Gliere (great, great, great grand daughter of Reinhold Gliere (1875-1956) and pianist/composer Alfred Heller (a protégé of Mr. Villa-Lobos).
Ms. Pereira plays the world premiere of a new Violin Concerto, adapted from Mr. Villa-Lobos' Harmonica Concerto. Dr. Gliere sings the music of her ancestor as well as Dr. Heller's Emily Dickinson songs composed for the late soprano Arleen Auger). Dr. Heller plays Rudepoêma of Mr. Villa-Lobos.
