Sunday, February 17, 2008
PEORIA - "A Winter Delight" is the name of the St. Martin Chamber Players concert to be performed at 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Universalist-Unitarian Church, 3000 W. Richwoods Blvd.
The program includes a number of unusual works, according to group spokesman Grant Gillett.
A reception will follow the concert in the church Fellowship Hall.
For the concert, the players will present a trio for viola, oboe and clarinet by American composer Randall Thompson and a duo for piano and contra-bassoon called "Heart's Desire" by American composer Donald Dragansk.
Other pieces on the program include "Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6" by Hector Villa-Lobos for flute and bassoon and "Sonata for Brass Trio" by Frances Poulenc for trumpet, horn and trombone.
Members of the St. Martin Chamber Players are Denise Cooksey, flute; Dr. Nancy Gillett, oboe; David Stewart, clarinet; Dawn Clark, horn; Grant Gillett, bassoon and contra-bassoon; Todd Schifeling, viola; Randy Cooksey, trumpet; Darren Seymour, trombone; and Dr. Sherry Seckler, piano.
Anne Kyle, a former student of Grant Gillett, will perform in the Villa-Lobos work.
The concert is free and open to the public. An offering will be collected toward maintaining and preserving historic organ at St. Joseph's Church, a cause the chamber group has supported since organizing in 1993. The concert is part of the Universalist-Unitarian music series for 2007-2008.
