Suite Populaire Bresilienne

Appleby Catalogue W number:
W020

The work as we know it was completed in 1912, but portions were written in the previous decade.  This work is thus one of the earliest pieces by Villa-Lobos that's normally played today.  The first movement is dedicated to Maria Tereza Teran.

Performances:

This is a very popular work, but as with the Preludes, Etudes, and Choros #01, it's hard to capture all of the concerts that include the odd movement or the whole Suite Populaire.  As of December 2010, there are 29 records in the Villa-Lobos Concerts database, but I'm sure it's played much more often than that.
