#1 - June 30 - The first : Guitar Prelude no3 "Homage to Bach" Pepe Romero: This piece has character; a great miniature.
#2 - July 1 - The Nonetto is a large chamber work - enough percussion & choir to fill a stage! Listen here: (track 13)
#3 - July 2 - Though not known as an opera composer, Villa-Lobos wrote a masterpiece: Yerma, based on Garcia Lorca's play Sonate-Fantaisie no1, an early Villa-Lobos work for violin & piano - listen to Oscar Borgerth online:
#5 - July 4 - My favourite of the 5 Piano Concertos: no2 - Ulises Hernandez in a video with the National SO of Cuba
#6 - July 5 - - Bachianas Brasileiras no7, one of Villa-Lobos's greatest works - a moving accompaniment to this project: Choros no2. A Varese-infuenced modernist work, it also looks back to Villa's youth. Soni Ventorum: The piano piece Valsa da Dor has become quite popular in the last few years. Anna Stella Schic:
#9 - July 8 - The secular cantata Mandu Çarará, written in 1940 - - if you like Choros no10, you'll love this work!
#10 - July 9 - Choros no6 - Roberto Tibiriçá conducts - bit.ly/rizEC4 - this has one of Villa-Lobos's great introductions

#19 - July 18 - Descobrimento do Brasil - here's a chance to hear Villa's score while watching Humberto Mauro's classic film The 1948 version of Ave Maria, sung here by Madrigal Brasil - Jet Whistle offers the flutist an opportunity to blow into the embouchure as loud as he can on various notes Martírio dos Insetos, a short (& really interesting) violin concerto, played here by Daniel Guedes Villa's Magdalena was a hit on Broadway, &, I believe, an influence on West Side Story - Daniel Guedes & AL Del Claro Ciranda das Sete Notas for bassoon & strings (1933) - played here () by Soni Ventorum Bachianas Brasileiras no1 - Mischa Maisky & Carte Blanche at the Verbier Festival 2008 -
#27 - July 26 - Villa-Lobos lost the score to Sexteto Mistico (1917), & rewrote it 40 years later - - a great chamber work
