- "The Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, increasingly popular here, directed the Orchestre Nationale in a program of his own works, among them a first performance of his new piano concerto." - Paris Journal, 1944-1955, Janet (Genet) Flanner & William Shawn, p. 279. This was the fifth concerto, written in 1954.
- Villa-Lobos is an organizer and conductor at the Caracas Festival (along with Carlos Chávez). Aaron Copland's report on the festival is included in Aaron Copland: a reader, p. 121-122.
