This work was written in 1948, according to Appleby (1988).  But according to Villa-Lobos: Sua Obra (1989), it was begun in 1952 and finished in 1957.

Premiere performance: Arnaldo Estrella was the soloist, with Eleazar de Carvalho conducting the Orchestra of the Teatro Municipal, Aug. 24, 1957.

None of the piano concertos is very popular in live performance.  As of Sept. 2008, there are only single performances of #2 and #3 in the Villa-Lobos Concerts database.
