The seventh String Quartet was written in Rio in 1942, and dedicated to the Quarteto Borgerth.
Prof. Tarasti speaks very highly of this work: "In many respects it is an exceptional case in the whole series.... It could almost be considered a symphony arranged for quartet." - Tarasti (1995), p. 309.
