This is the first volume in Sonia Rubinsky's amazing series of the complete piano music on the Naxos label.   Though for some reason not released until 1999, the disc was recorded in 1994.

Read James Melo's liner notes.  As the Naxos series nears completion, we have not only the great performances of the pianist, but Melo's thoughtful series of essays on the piano works.  The collected notes are a useful introduction for someone coming new to the music, but they also represent an impressive work of scholarship which is of great interest to the Villa-Lobos specialist.
