Heitor Villa-Lobos Celebration I: Quarteto Radamés Gnattali
Wednesday, October 7, 2009
7:00 p.m.
AS/COA
680 Park Avenue
New York, NY

Quarteto Radamés Gnattali (QRG) is one of Brazil's leading string quartets. This concert will be the first in Americas Society's commemoration of the quinquagenary of Heitor Villa Lobos' death and will include his String Quartets 14 and 15, as well as Radamés Gnattali's Seresta Number 1 and Valsa. The QRG was founded in 1994 and has had a remarkably successful career concentrating on the performance of Brazilian repertoire by established composers-such as Ricardo Tacuchian, Radamés Gnattali, or Villa Lobos-as well as the music of up-and-coming composers. The QRG has received numerous awards in Brazil and performed throughout the Americas, as well as in Europe and Africa. The Strad described their debut CD Quadro Brasil by saying "[T]he music of four 20th-century Brazilian composers comes vividly to life in this recording."

Produced in collaboration with the Consulate General of Brazil in New York.
