This eclectic program takes listeners on a sonic global adventure. Silvestre Revueltas's Sensemayá combines the flavor of Mexican folksong with the intoxicating energy of Stravinsky, while Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos's Ciranda das sete notas is all affable charm. Edgard Varèse's Amériques, completed upon the French enfant terrible's move to New York, offers a boisterous portrait of the composer's newly adopted home. The evening ends with Beethoven's glorious Seventh Symphony.
