Luther Enloe Guitar Concert at Dalton State CollegeDate: 10/03/2011 - 00:00 Location: USA: Dalton GA Work Performed: Preludes for Guitar Guitar concert to feature music from 17th-20th centuries Submitted by Dalton State College Guitar selections from the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries will be featured in a solo recital by Luther Enloe on Monday at Dalton State College. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall and is an offering of the college's Fine Arts and Lecture Series. "Classical guitarist Luther Enloe is noted for his resonant sound quality, lyrical phrasing and technical finesse," said Ellie Jenkins, assistant professor of music appreciation for the college. "Among the selections he will play Monday evening are Gaspar Sanz's popular ‘Suit Español,' a collection of 17th century dances and popular songs published in 1674." "Other virtuosic guitar favorites include ‘Asturias' by the 19th century Spanish nationalistic composer Isaac Albéniz and ‘Introduction and Variations on a Theme of Mozart, Op. 9,' by Fernando Sor, 1778-1839. Additionally, Dr. Enloe will present a set of pieces by Felix Mendelssohn, transcribed for the guitar by the 19th century virtuoso Francisco Tárrega," she said. "Popular and South American guitar music will also be featured in the program," Jenkins continued. "He will perform two hauntingly beautiful preludes by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos in addition to a piece by the contemporary Argentinean composer Maximo Diego Pujol and will even add a selection by the Beatles with his rendition of ‘Norwegian Wood.'" An active performer, recording artist and clinician, Enloe has recorded for Sonic Grapefruit Records and has appeared in recital in the southeastern and northwestern United States. Recent solo recital engagements include performances at Ramsey Concert Hall in Athens, Frost Chapel in Mount Berry, the Susan B. Harris Chapel in Young Harris, Hoag Auditorium in Dahlonega, Max Noah Recital Hall in Milledgeville, John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C., the Ursuline Centre in Great Falls, Mont., and the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture in Bozeman, Mont. Additionally, he has appeared as a guitar soloist with ensembles including the Montana State University Chorale, the Dekalb Choral Guild and the Peachtree Symphonic Winds. Enloe serves on the faculty of Berry College in Rome where he maintains a thriving guitar studio in addition to teaching music. Last year, he served as an adviser in the development of performance standards for middle and high school guitar classes for the Georgia Department of Education and Georgia Music Educators Association. Monday evening's concert is sponsored by Dalton State's Office of Student Life and the Department of Humanities. Seating is first-come, first-served; no reservations required.
