Composed at the request of Ambassador Carlos Martins de Souza for the wedding of his daughter.
Villa-Lobos seems to have transcribed this work for piano. Charles Jacobs, in his article "Villa-Lobos in His Centennial: A Preliminary Research Report", Latin American Music Review / Revista de Música Latinoamericana, Vol. 8, No. 2
(Autumn - Winter, 1987), p. 256, includes the following item in a list of photocopies he received from the Museu Villa-Lobos:
"6. Cortejo Nupcial, piano reduction (four pages in poor condition)"
Sonia Rubinsky includes the piece in Vol. 7 of her complete piano music survey for Naxos - it's a world premiere recording, and the only one in the catalogue.
Orchestra and organ
The premiere performance was in Paris in 1949.
