RIAS Orchestra of Berlin, conducted by Heitor Villa-Lobos
Naxos Classics re-issue cover:
Recorded in Berlin in January 1954, this disc was for a time the only available recording of Choros #06. Now that there are some excellent modern recordings, the poor sound seems more of a problem.
Still, this historic recording shows us again how well Villa could inspire European orchestras when he conducted his own music. Comparing this BB#7 with the one on Villa-Lobos par lui-meme shows that Villa-Lobos didn't have as much time to prepare the Berlin orchestra as he did with the Parisians a few years later.
Joe Salerno & David Lennick's new transfer for Naxos Classics, with a really excellent Enescu bonus, goes a long way to making this recording sound much better. You can listen at The Naxos Music Library.
The MP3 files from the Choros 6/BB 7 disc is available at Amazon.com (USA only) - the Naxos Classics re-issue is only available via streaming & MP3 download.
