Guitar Concert in Hartford CTDate: 03/21/2009 - 13:30 Location: USA: Hartford CT Work Performed: Works for Guitar Classical guitarist Neal Fitzpatrick to perform BLOOMFIELD - Classical guitarist Neal Fitzpatrick will perform from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. March 21 at the Archbishop O'Brien Library at the Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary, 467 Bloomfield Ave. He will perform the works of 20th-century composers Leo Brouwer, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Eduardo Sainz De La Maza and 19th-century composers Fernando Sor and Francisco Tarrega, as well as pieces that he composed. A Connecticut native, Mr. Fitzpatrick received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music in 1998. He studied extensively with jazz great Sal Salvador and world-renowned classical guitarist Sharon Isbin. He continued his studies at Yale under another master and innovator of the guitar, Benjamin Verdery. While at Yale, he served as Mr. Verdery's teaching assistant for one year. His awards include the annual Applied Music Department Guitar Award for Excellence, given at the end of each school year at the Hartt School; and the Benjamin Jepson Award at Yale, which goes to a Connecticut native who excelled while in the music program. Mr. Fitzpatrick is an active soloist and chamber musician. He has performed at such diverse venues as the Connecticut Classical Guitar Society, the Yale Center for British Art, Sprague Hall in New Haven, the Aspen Music Festival, the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, the Yale Guitar Extravaganza, the New York City Guitar Festival, and at Woolsey Hall with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. He also is active in public library concert programs throughout the tri-state area. Mr. Fitzpatrick teaches both classical and jazz guitar. He also teaches at the Community Music School in Centerbrook, where he is chairman of the guitar department. He has taught at the Trinity College Lessons Program and the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven and has given private lessons in guitar at the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, where he was on the faculty of the Audubon Summer Arts Program.
