Adriane Queiroz sings Villa-Lobos in LacrosseDate: 03/29/2009 - 15:00 Location: USA: Lacrosse WI Work Performed: Poema de Itabira UW-L symphony concert to feature Brazilian soprano Adriane Queiroz, a Brazilian who sings with the State Opera Company in Berlin, will perform the fourth movement of Mahler's fourth symphony and "Poema de Itabira" by Heitor Villa-Lobos with the orchestra. "This is very special, and we're very fortunate that Adriane is coming here," said Enaldo Oliveira, UW-L director of orchestral studies. "She sings all over the world with the best conductors and singers like Placido Domingo." Oliveira said this is the first time Queiroz is singing in the United States. She also will give a masterclass. Oliveira said he worked with Queiroz at an opera festival in Brazil and they became friends. Other music on the Masterworks Concert Series program includes the Julius Caesar overture by Robert Schumann, Bach's "Come Sweet Death" and "Passacaglia" from the second symphony by David Phipps, a UW-L violin instructor who plays with the symphony. The concert is at 3 p.m. in the Cartwright Center's Valhalla on the UW-L campus. Suggested donations are $8 for adults and $4 for students. It's free for UW-L students. Guitar Concert in Bronxville NYDate: 03/29/2009 - 15:00 Location: USA: Bronxville NY Work Performed: Works for Guitar Friends of Library to host classical concert BRONXVILLE - Lawrence Del Casale, a classical concert guitarist, and Colleen Becton, special guest soprano, will perform at 3 p.m. March 29 at the Bronxville Public Library, 201 Pondfield Road. The program includes Spanish music by composers Villa-Lobos, Manuel Maria Ponce, Leo Brouwer, Ernesto Cordero and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Del Casale has been performing throughout the New York metropolitan area since 1983. His first Carnegie Hall recital was in 1985. Becton's accomplishments include several seasons with the Bronx Opera Company and performances at Carnegie Hall and the Blue Note.
