John David Quijano Rodríguez
Nació en Ibagué (Tolima) el 9 de diciembre de 1988, y comenzó sus estudios de guitarra con su padre, Ernesto Quijano, a la edad de 5 años. Luego de trasladarse a la ciudad de Bogotá, continuó sus estudios con el concertista de guitarra Julián Rodríguez Blanco, y posteriormente se vinculó a la Fundación Musical Amadeus, bajo la dirección del maestro Ramiro Isaza Mejía, fundador de la cátedra de guitarra en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. A la muerte de este célebre maestro, continuó sus estudios con su discípulo Omar Fernando González, con aportes significativos para su formación en guitarra.

Ha participado en clases magistrales con los maestros Eduardo Fernández (Uruguay), Shin Ishi Fukuda (Japón), Oscar Giglia (Italia), Timo Korhonen (Finlandia), Eliot Fisk
(USA), Lito Romero y Carmen Cuello (España) y Pavel Steidl (República Checa). Ha ofrecido recitales en el auditorio de la Biblioteca Virgilio Barco, en el Teresa Cuervo Borda del Museo Nacional de Colombia, en el Museo de Arte Colonial, en el auditorio Compensar, en el Paulo VI y en el Luis Carlos Galán de la Universidad Javeriana, y en la Fundación Amadeus, entre otros. En marzo del 2009, fue uno de los ganadores del Concurso Jóvenes Intérpretes de la Universidad Javeriana y, en abril siguiente, del concurso que organiza la Universidad Tadeo Lozano de Jóvenes Intérpretes. Actualmente adelanta sus estudios musicales universitarios en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana bajo la dirección del maestro Carlos Posada.

UTC Music Dept. presents UTC Orchestra

On Tuesday, September 29, 2009, the UTC Orchestra under direction of Maestro Jooyong Ahn will be joined by coloratura soprano Desirée Soteres for an evening of orchestral music and operatic arias. The concert will be held at the Roland Hayes Concert Hall of the UTC Fine Arts Center, (corner of Palmetto and Vine St.) The concert begins at 7:30 pm and is open to the general public free of charge.

The program for the evening will include two orchestral masterworks, Richard Wagner's Prelude to Der Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. Ms. Soteres will be featured in several pieces including "Les Filles de Cadiz" from Delibes Lakme, Villa-Lobos "Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5", the Queen of the Night's aria "Die Hölle Racht" from Mozart's Magic Flute, Arditi's "Il Bacio", and "Vilia" from Lehar's The Merry Widow.

Soprano Desirée Soteres is a Chattanooga native who began her career with the Portland Opera Company and has since appeared throughout the US and abroad. She has appeared locally with the Chattanooga Symphony, the Chattanooga Bach Choir and the Chattanooga Theater Center. She was a featured performer in a series of concerts in Europe, South America, and Australia aboard Cunard's Vistafjord and Royal Viking Sun. She was named a world finalist in the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition, a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, a semi-finalist in the Jenny Lind Competition and a regional winner in the MacAllister Competition.
UTC Orchestra

Maestro Jooyong Ahn is an Associate Professor of Music at UTC and Director of Orchestras. He has performed internationally and maintains an active schedule as a conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and teacher. Maestro Ahn has served as a juror for the Vakhtang Jordania International Conducting Competition in Ukraine and the United States for last two years. Maestro Ahn was invited by U.S. State Department and U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires to oversee and to give masterclasses for seven selected youth orchestras in Argentina in June and July of 2009. He also guest conducted Orquesta Juvenil de San Martin and Orquesta Juvenil Chascomus.
