Philippa Davies is a first-rate virtuoso. - Financial Times.

The ever-popular Ludwig String Trio always provides superb music and enjoyable entertainment with their incredibly energetic interaction onstage. Here they are joined by one of the finest flautists in the country and friend of Music in the Round, Philippa Davies. Written just before Beethoven's beguiling Serenade Op 8 was his String Trio in E flat, modelled on Mozart's magnificent Divertimento K563. Deafness was setting in when he came to write the Serenade Op 25, but his genius was not diminished; it is a beautiful and vivacious work.

Amongst this programme of Beethoven is the lyrical Jet Whistle by Villa-Lobos, written at a time when the composer was fascinated by instrumental virtuosity, as demonstrated by his famous guitar concerto, written a year afterwards.
